Modern Stoic — Morning
In a world filled with constant distractions, fleeting pleasures, and the never-ending pursuit of material success, Stoicism has found a new resurgence among us living in the 10th century searching for a more meaningful and fulfilling life. The morning routine of a modern Stoic is a reflection of their commitment to living a life in alignment with Stoic principles. Let’s explore what a typical morning looks like for someone who embraces the wisdom of Stoicism in their daily life.
Wake Up Early
One of the fundamental principles of Stoicism is the discipline of self-control. A modern Stoics should start their day by waking up early, as it allows them to have a quiet and peaceful beginning to their day. What I consider early in this case is an hour or two before your normal work day begins. This buffer period provides you with valuable time for reflection, self-care, and preparation for the challenges ahead. Our energy to exert self control is strongest in the morning so take advantage of that and start your day off strong. Don’t snooze your alarm. Don’t get sucked into your phone. Just turn off the alarm, leave your phone on the charger, stand up and stretch. One of my favorite things is to walk out on my porch or open a window and to take in a breath of fresh air.
