Technically I can see your point. For the sake of the article I was trying to keep things simple and not get into asset calculation. The costs calculated here are lost, whereas the cost paid into the acquisition of the car itself can be recouped when selling the car. The current resale of the Model Y is such that there is virtually no depreciation to factor in at this point.
